Developing decision-making tools to help residents comfortably age in place
The Client: City of Centennial
The Challenge: As Colorado’s older adult population grows rapidly, municipalities are struggling to keep pace with the demand for housing that supports the changing needs that come with aging and/or disabilities. The City of Centennial prioritized creating an age-friendly community and called on IBE to support their efforts.
Our Approach: Leveraging the Lifelong Homes criteria, IBE created an age-friendly assessment tool and home renovation guides designed to help Centennial homeowners age in place. IBE created five guides – one each for IBE’s five Lifelong Homes criteria: Visitability; Design & Adaptability; Health, Safety & Wellness; Affordability & Maintenance; and Community Context.
The Outcomes: Available on the city’s interactive website, the assessment tool and renovation guides are offering Centennial resident a framework for homes that are safe, healthy, and accessible, regardless of age or ability.
