Living Regions Lab

Working at the intersections of data, story, and community
to elevate regional wellbeing

The Living Regions Lab helps people understand their region as a living whole — and act on that understanding together.

The Challenge

The systems that shape life — housing, infrastructure, health, economy, environment — take form at the regional scale. When regions thrive, so do the communities within them.

But regions face complex, interconnected challenges that are hard to make sense of across jurisdictions, sectors, and issues. Data, planning efforts, and lived experience are siloed. Patterns go unrecognized. Coordinated action stalls — not for lack of effort, but for lack of shared understanding. This makes it difficult to  discern how challenges connect or where collective action can make the greatest difference.

Our Approach

We work with regional teams to make sense of their region as a whole: surfacing the patterns that shape outcomes; building shared understanding across sectors and jurisdictions; and translating insight into aligned, collective action. Through community engagement, data synthesis, and systems thinking, our process reveals where systems and relationships reinforce one another, where gaps exist, and where coordinated strategies can have the most impact.

From Insight to Action

Our work builds regional capacity from within. Teams move from fragmented efforts to shared direction; make apparent what was previously intuitive; and launch catalytic projects and collaborative initiatives with momentum that outlasts the engagement itself. As a result, teams cultivate not just better plans, but stronger, more adaptive regions.

We help regional leaders:

    • Integrate qualitative and quantitative data and community insights into a shared regional narrative
    • Identify critical intersections across systems and policy domains
    • Align stakeholders around common priorities and opportunities
    • Translate insights into actionable strategies, projects, and partnerships
